Gordon Monsen, your Skipper is 58 and started sailing at the age of 12 in an old wooden sloop which he bought for ten dollars in Cape Town, South Africa. He has represented South Africa in World Competitions in Hawaii, France, the USA and at home, and raced the 1993 Cape-to-Rio Trans-Atlantic. He is a qualified marine surveyor for Lloyds of London and specialized in marine losses. Gordon has sailed in excess of 100,000 nautical miles, has completed 8 major ocean crossings and has worked, chartered and sailed the islands of the Caribbean for 10 years, from Trinidad in the south to the British Virgin Islands in the north. Hobbies and interests are, predictably, sailing and meeting interesting people, water-sports and reading. Sandra Johnson, your chef, was raised in California, has made her home on the water since 1999 - beginning with a voyage from Alaska to California in her 33' Islander sailboat. Now living in the Caribbean on a Newport 41 sloop, she uses her culinary talents to support charter operations in the Virgin Islands. Sandra has worked with food in remote Alaskan lodges, upscale dinner houses in San Francisco, managed quaint coffee houses and now enjoys creating Caribbean menus with a unique Island flair. Sandra prides herself in being able to create something fun with available ingredients and loves the challenge of chefing on a sailing vessel. "It is important that the visitors on Liberte go home with warm Island memories". Sandra has worked with other sailing yachts such as Gentle Winds, Palm Coaster, Tiara Apetahi, Y-Not and has enjoyed every minute of it. Also a massage therapist since 1984 Sandra can treat you to with a nice foot massage -your well being is very important to her.
